BREAKING: US announces visa ban on some Nigerians, gives reason

The United States has imposed fresh visa restrictions on Nigerians identified for violations of religious freedom.

In an announcement shared on X, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the new policy targets individuals who “knowingly direct, authorise, fund, support, or carry out violations of religious freedom.”

Rubio noted that the decision reflects Washington’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding religious liberties worldwide. He added that anyone implicated whether government officials, security operatives, or members of non-state groups—will face immediate travel limitations.

The statement did not disclose the names of those affected. Still, the U.S. government emphasised that it will continue to closely track religious freedom concerns in Nigeria and take additional measures when necessary.
