JUST IN Another PDP Gov dumps party cites national leadership crisis

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), blaming the party’s persistent national leadership crisis for his decision.

Adeleke announced his resignation in a statement posted on his Instagram page late Monday night. He disclosed that he had earlier submitted a formal resignation letter to PDP officials in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government Area, on November 4, 2025.

He stated:

“Due to the ongoing crisis within the leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (#OfficialPDPNig) at the national level, I officially conveyed my resignation letter as a member to the party leadership in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government on November 4, 2025. I thank the party and its many members and supporters for the opportunities they have provided me, first as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and now as Governor of Osun State.”

The governor’s exit comes amid prolonged internal disputes that have fractured the PDP at the national level.

Recent reports from the Osun State chapter of the party suggested that Adeleke was increasingly unlikely to seek the PDP’s nomination for the 2026 governorship election unless the crisis was resolved promptly. Party leaders had earlier expressed optimism that a solution — validated by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) — could persuade the governor to remain within the fold.

PUNCH Online had also previously reported that the lingering leadership disputes might force Adeleke out of the party, jeopardising his chances of contesting under the PDP in the upcoming gubernatorial race.

With this resignation, the PDP faces yet another major setback as internal turmoil continues to push key political figures out of its ranks.
