Troops repel attack in Taraba gun down 4 bandits

Troops from the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, deployed under Operation Peace Shield, have thwarted an attack by armed bandits in Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State, killing four of the attackers.

The incident followed renewed tensions between the Shomo and Wurkun communities.

The confrontation erupted in Usmanu village, where 15 homes were reportedly set ablaze before security forces moved in to stabilise the situation.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama reported that the soldiers reached the village around 9:35 a.m. on Nov. 29 after receiving emergency calls from residents.

“On arrival, about 50 armed bandits reportedly launched an attack on the soldiers, prompting a swift response that overpowered the assailants.

“During the encounter, troops neutralised four bandits and recovered one fabricated AK-47 rifle, three dane guns, 25 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and two magazines.

“The troops also arrested one key suspect believed to be collaborating with the armed group,” the report said.

Military authorities confirmed that the arrested suspect is currently being interrogated.
