Man who raped student in our campus not lecturer – University

The Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) has publicly dissociated itself from one Mr. Kolawole Muyiwa, recently convicted of rape, stressing that he has never been part of the institution’s workforce.
Speaking on Saturday, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Bilkis Lafiaji-Okuneye, condemned rape, calling it “debasing to humanity,” and reaffirmed the university’s zero-tolerance policy toward such acts.
Lafiaji-Okuneye said the school felt compelled to clarify Muyiwa’s identity following his conviction, emphasizing that he had no employment ties with LASUED.
According to her, the man was introduced into the campus environment by a lecturer, who allowed him access to his office, where the assault on a female student took place.
She explained that Muyiwa took advantage of that access to violate the student, who was a minor when the incident occurred in 2021. The university, she added, promptly reported the matter, leading to his prosecution and eventual conviction.
“But the court’s judgment of Feb. 27, 2025, which convicted Muyiwa, pronounced him a staff member of the institution, contrary to his real status as an intruder who was never employed by the school,” she said.
“The university hereby unequivocally states that he was never in the employment of the institution.”
