 Umaru Musa Yar adua University gets 19 new professors 20 associate profs

Nineteen academic staff of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University (UMYU), Katsina, have been promoted to the rank of professor following the approval of the institution’s Governing Council.

The announcement was made in Katsina through a statement issued on Saturday by Nabila Dahiru-Anche, the Assistant Chief Information and Protocol Officer in the Office of the Vice Chancellor.

According to her, the promotions were ratified during the 56th meeting of the Governing Council, which endorsed the elevation of 113 academic staff members, effective October 1.

She added that the council meeting, held on Nov. 27, also formally received the newly appointed Pro-Chancellor, Sen. Hadi Abubakar-Sirika.

“Among the academic staff, 19 were promoted to the rank of Professors, 20 to Readers (associate professor s), 31 were promoted to Senior Lecturers, 17 to Lecturer I, and 26 to the rank of Lecturer II.In addition, 36 staff were converted to various cadres and upgraded to higher ranks,” the statement read.

The council also approved a 100 per cent increase in the wages of university cleaners, a decision it said reflects the institution’s commitment to improving staff welfare.

The statement added that the development represents a major step in UMYU’s pursuit of academic growth and institutional advancement.

It noted that during the session, Abubakar-Sirika reaffirmed his resolve to contribute meaningfully to the progress of the university. “He also met with the leadership of all four In-House Unions of the university, pledging loyalty, support and cooperation in working together as critical stakeholders for the institution’s progress.”

The council further commended the university’s management, expressing satisfaction with the way it has been steering the institution’s affairs.
