Maricel Cantillo gets another four year term as Colombia s Honorary Consul in Nigeria

Colombia has renewed the tenure of Maricel Romero Cantillo as its Honorary Consul in Nigeria, granting her an additional four-year mandate.

The extension underscores Bogotá’s trust in her diplomatic contributions and her expanding influence in advancing relations between both nations.

Her reappointment follows the landmark visit of Colombia’s Vice President to Nigeria earlier this year—an engagement focused on boosting cooperation in trade, education, culture, and wider people-to-people connections.

During that visit, officials from both countries agreed to broaden collaboration across several sectors, strengthening ties between Latin America and West Africa.

Ms. Maricel has played a significant role in driving this diplomatic resurgence. She has collaborated with government agencies, private-sector leaders, and cultural institutions to raise Colombia’s profile in Nigeria and promote mutual understanding. Her work has helped generate increased interest in commercial partnerships, tourism opportunities, and cultural exchange.

With a fresh four-year term, she is expected to deepen these achievements, building on recent high-level engagements and helping transform them into lasting bilateral cooperation.

The Consulate is also anticipated to expand its support for Colombian nationals living or conducting business in Nigeria while pursuing new areas of partnership between both countries.

Maricel Romero Cantillo’s renewed mandate affirms her position as a central figure in Colombia–Nigeria relations, continuing to serve as a link between two dynamic cultures and advancing shared diplomatic goals.
