Chaos as hoodlums attack Obesere, aide, steal cash bag

Fuji legend, Abass Akande Obesere, and members of his entourage came under attack on Friday, November 21, 2025, during a burial ceremony in Okitipupa, Ondo State.
The incident was revealed in a statement issued by Ayonla Obesere Althentic, the musician’s media manager.
According to him, trouble broke out shortly after Obesere rounded off his performance and the team prepared to depart.
“Large groups of touts surrounded the area. One group converged on my location because I was carrying the bag of money. Despite our efforts to leave peacefully, my principal and I were aggressively confronted. The assailants demanded that I hand over the bag; when I refused, a violent struggle ensued,” he explained.
Ayonla said he sustained significant injuries during the confrontation, noting that a shoulder was dislocated and he received multiple blows, including one involving a knife.
“During the attack I was beaten and my shoulder was dislocated as a result of the struggle. I was also struck with a knife while attempting to get into the car; I cannot confirm a stabbing wound but I sustained several blows and am in significant pain,” Ayonla said.
He added that the attackers seized the bag of money while another group continued rough-handling Obesere, despite his attempt to calm the situation by offering them cash.
Ayonla said he eventually managed to usher Obesere into a vehicle to ensure they could seek safety and medical assistance.
“We condemn this criminal and violent behaviour in the strongest terms. Such attacks on performers, their teams, and mourners at a burial ceremony are unacceptable,” he said.
He confirmed that a formal complaint had been lodged with the Okitipupa Police Division and urged authorities to identify and prosecute those responsible.
The media manager also appealed to fans, organisers, and members of the public to “refrain from violence and to respect the safety of performers, their teams, and mourners.”
He expressed appreciation to individuals who offered help during the incident as well as local security and medical personnel, adding that more information would be shared as needed.
