Nigerian university orders immediate closure over security fears

One of the universities in the northern part of the country, Abdullahi Fodio University of Science and Technology, Aliero, Kebbi State, has abruptly suspended academic and administrative activities, directing every staff member and student to leave the campus at once.
The announcement was contained in a memo released by the Office of the Registrar and Secretary to Council, which stated that the closure takes effect immediately. According to the directive, all categories of learners — postgraduate, undergraduate, diploma, remedial and IJMB — are affected.
The notice, endorsed by Registrar Maimaro Tilli, instructed students to vacate the campus within one hour of the announcement. It added that the institution’s Security Division has been authorised to “evacuate any student found within the hostels or other restricted areas on campus.”
Students living off campus, including those in the Gidan Rami area, were also cautioned to clear their residences to avoid what the memo warned could be “embarrassment” from university security personnel.
Although the university did not disclose the reason for the sudden shutdown, it noted that the directive would remain in place until further notice.
However, credible sources suggested that the directive may be connected to heightened security threats currently affecting educational institutions across northern Nigeria.
