3 killed as gunmen clash with hunters in Adamawa

Authorities in Adamawa State have confirmed the deaths of three people following an attack carried out by armed hoodlums on hunters and residents in Song Local Government Area on Friday.

Security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, reported that the incident unfolded around 3:20 p.m. when hunters from Barkin Sajo, operating under the Miyetti Allah hunters association, trailed suspected cattle rustlers into the Mayo Suno forest.

Citing a source, Makama said a shootout erupted between the hunters and the assailants, leading to the killing of one hunter, identified as Buji Alhaji, aged 40.

He added that the armed group later advanced to Maigero village, where they set fire to seven thatched huts at the local market before shooting and killing two residents: Alhaji Haruna and Iliya Dabba.

Security personnel were said to have arrived at the location afterward and conveyed the bodies to the Cottage Hospital in Song.

According to the sources, efforts are underway to apprehend those behind the attack, while the police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has been tasked with carrying out a discreet probe into the incident.
