No nationwide shutdown of schools FG

The Federal Ministry of Education has refuted a social media message alleging that schools across the country were instructed to close from November 24, 2025.

In a statement released on Saturday, the ministry said the widely shared report was fabricated, stressing that it did not emanate from the Federal Government, the Federal Ministry of Education, any state education ministry or any recognised security institution.

The alert, signed by the ministry’s spokesperson, Folasade Boriowo, advised Nigerians to rely solely on verified updates issued through authorised platforms.

“Any announcement, advisory, or notice coming from unofficial or unverified sources should be ignored and not shared. Members of the public are urged to always verify the authenticity of information before circulating it in order to curb the spread of misinformation,” the statement read.

The ministry reiterated that only statements released by the Federal Government, the Federal Ministry of Education, state authorities or recognised security agencies should be regarded as credible.

The clarification follows the Federal Government’s directive on Friday ordering the temporary closure of 41 federal secondary schools located in high-risk areas after a surge in abductions in Niger and Kebbi States.

It wad earlier reported that several states — including Kwara, Plateau, Katsina and Niger — had already shut schools due to worsening insecurity.

Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, likewise instructed public and private schools in the state to immediately deboard their students.
