Christian killings Italian PM Meloni pushes for decisive action in Nigeria

Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni has called on the Nigerian authorities to take decisive action against those behind the ongoing violence targeting Christians across the country.

In a statement issued on Friday, Meloni condemned the latest wave of attacks and stressed that every individual is entitled to practise their faith freely. She urged the Nigerian government to reinforce security in areas where Christian communities remain vulnerable.

“We strongly condemn the renewed violence against Christian communities in Nigeria today. Religious freedom is an inalienable right: we call on the Nigerian government to strengthen the protection of Christian communities and all religious communities and prosecute those responsible for this heinous attack.

‘I’m really angry over Christian genocide in Nigeria’ – Trump hints at next move“Italy expresses its closeness to the victims and communities in Nigeria that today feel in danger because of their religious beliefs,” she wrote.

Her remarks follow renewed incidents of violence in parts of Nigeria. Earlier in the week, gunmen stormed a church in the Eruku area of Kwara State, killing two people and abducting the pastor along with several congregants.

The assault came just days after the kidnapping of 25 schoolgirls from a boarding school in Kebbi State.

The fresh attack in Eruku has intensified international scrutiny on the Nigerian government, especially as former US President Donald Trump has warned of possible military action in response to alleged persecution of Christians.
