Police foil kidnapping attempt in Abuja, neutralize 2 suspects

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has thwarted a kidnapping attempt in Guto village, a community on the outskirts of Bwari Area Council, in the early hours of Thursday, November 20, 2025.
According to the Command, a distress call was received at about 1:10 a.m., alerting officers that a group of heavily armed men—estimated at around 30—had invaded the community with the intention of abducting a resident and members of his family.

Acting swiftly, operatives from the Bwari Division Surveillance Team, supported by the IGP Special Intervention Squad (SIS), moved to the scene. On sighting the officers, the attackers opened fire. The police team responded with superior firepower, engaging the criminals in an intense gun duel.

During the exchange, two of the attackers were neutralised, while the remaining suspects fled into the surrounding bushes and mountainous terrain.

Sadly, one police officer sustained a gunshot wound in the firefight. He was immediately rushed to Bwari General Hospital, where he was later confirmed dead. The Command described his death as a tragic loss, noting that he paid the ultimate price while protecting the community.

FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, has since deployed additional personnel to Guto village to reinforce security and prevent further threats. He also ordered a comprehensive investigation to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
