Kano Tragedy as 4 family members burnt to death in early morning fire

A devastating fire claimed the lives of four members of the same family at their home in Kundila Layin Baba Impossible, Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano State on Wednesday morning.

The Kano State Fire Service confirmed the tragic incident in a statement signed by its spokesperson, ACFO Saminu Yusif. According to the report, the blaze was first reported around 4:13 a.m. by one of the fire service personnel, HFS Abba Datti.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the ground-floor building—measuring approximately 40 by 30 feet and used as a dwelling—completely overtaken by flames. The fire destroyed two bedrooms, a parlour, a kitchen, and a toilet.

The statement revealed that five occupants were trapped inside the house, including 43-year-old father Shodandi, his 30-year-old wife Rafi’a, and their two daughters—three-year-old Mardiya and one-and-a-half-year-old Yusira—all of whom perished in the inferno.

Miraculously, a 12-year-old boy, Aminu Shodandi, was rescued alive by firefighters, bringing a glimmer of hope to an otherwise devastating tragedy.

The Fire Service extended condolences to the bereaved family and urged residents to exercise heightened caution when handling fire-related materials, especially during the dry harmattan season.
