Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has dissolved the Board of the Local Government Service Commission following allegations of abuse of office and mismanagement uncovered during a recent recruitment exercise.

The governor announced the decision in a statement on Tuesday, explaining that the dissolution became necessary after his administration identified irregularities and improper conduct by members of the board in handling the recruitment process.

His words, “My dear people of Cross River State, I want to let you know that I have dissolved the Board of the Local Government Service Commission. This is because we discovered serious abuse of office and cheating in the recent job recruitment.”

Describing the anomalies as wrong and unfair, Governor Otu said such actions undermine true governance and betray public trust in government.

“What happened was wrong and unfair.

It betrayed the trust you placed in us.

The recruitment exercise that was already stopped will remain suspended.

“We will start it again properly, clean, open, and based on merit, so that only qualified people get the jobs,” Otu said.

He further assured the people of the state that he would not tolerate any form of corruption in government or by public officers as such impeded the state’s growth process.
He added, “We will continue to take strong steps to make our institutions honest and trustworthy.

“Together, we will build a better Cross River State where things are done the right way,” Otu stated.
