D’banj reveals how Don Jazzy initiated Mo’Hits split

Afrobeats icon D’banj has opened up on the long-debated breakup of Mo’Hits Records, revealing that the decision to go separate ways came from his former partner and producer, Don Jazzy.
Speaking on the Mic On podcast hosted by journalist Seun Okinbaloye, D’banj addressed years of speculation surrounding the label’s collapse. Contrary to widely circulated reports, he explained that Don Jazzy was the one who suggested they dissolve their partnership.
According to D’banj, the revelation brought him peace rather than regret. He noted that he holds no grudges and wouldn’t alter any part of their journey together.
The “Koko Master” also commended Don Jazzy for his integrity, highlighting how the Mavin Records boss handed over his entire music catalogue including unreleased tracks during the split.
D’banj expressed missing collaborations with Don Jazzy but believes their split was predestined.
“If I were to go back in time, I wouldn’t have done anything differently regarding my relationship with Don Jazzy, especially when the idea to go our separate ways didn’t come from me. It came from Don Jazzy 100 per cent. And that’s why we have no issue.
“Jazzy gave me 100 per cent of my catalogue and maybe 10 other songs I have not released… It was a journey for me, even though he had his opinion, I knew that we needed to cement that global movement and I’m glad that even after, God still did it for us with ‘Oliver Twist’, which was the last record we released together,” he remarked.
