 COCHIN celebrates 2025 World Orphans Day seeks govt s support for orphanages

The Coalition of Orphanages and Children’s Home In Nigeria, COCHIN, has held a national celebration for orphans in the Federal Capital Territory to mark the 2025 World Orphans Day.

Recall that World Orphans Day is celebrated every second Monday of  November to spotlight the plight, rights welfare of orphaned and vulnerable children.

Although, the official date falls on Monday, 10th of November, 2025, COCHIN decided to hold the national celebration on the 15th of November, 2025 to avoid distrupting the academic activities of the celebrants.

On the occasion in Abuja, the Director Child, FCT Women Affairs Secretariat, Dr Idtis Yahaya commended COCHIN for celebrating the children.

Dr Idris Yahaya said the FCT Administration would ensure regular monitoring and visitation to Orphanages in the Territory added that Government would continue to collaborate with COCHIN towards ensuring standards in the operations of orphanages in the nation’s capital

Also speaking, the President of COCHIN, Senator Eze Ajoku,  said the celebration was to highlights challenges confronting some orphans in the country.

Ajoku stated that this year’s event highlighted the theme of strengthening advocacy, collaboration and community support systems for the holistic well-being of orphans and vulnerable children in Nigeria.

He therefore called on Government, lawmakers and humanitarian eealthy Nigerians to invest in orphanage and in the life of of vulnerable Nigerians children because some are out of school roaming the streets as car cleaners and hackers.

While also soliciting Government’s intervention and assistance for Orphanages Senator Eze Ajoku said COCHIN would not relent in its efforts at securing a better future for orphans in the country.

Some of the orphans, Chris Adams, Sherifat Abdullahi and Bolaji Aderemi appreciated COCHIN for organizing the event for them saying it has gone a long way to make them feel good by meeting with their peers for games and other interesting activities at the Children’s Park where the event took place in Abuja.

They therefore appealed to Government at all levels to give priority to their health and educational development towards making them responsible citizens of Nigeria.

Highpoints of the event were riding of the various entertainment equipments at the park, dancing with mascots, various dance presentations  by each of the orphanage homes and lots of things to eat and drink made available by COCHIN.
