Suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters launched a deadly ambush on a Nigerian Army convoy late Friday in Borno State, killing several soldiers and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).

The attackers, described as heavily armed and operating with precision, struck the convoy in what security sources believe was a carefully planned assault, triggering panic across the area.

In what security analysts say could be a major escalation, the insurgents allegedly abducted a serving Brigade Commander along with other military personnel. If officially confirmed, it would be the first time a serving General has been seized directly from the frontline by an extremist faction in Nigeria.

According to HumAngle, “ISWAP fighters last night ambushed a Nigerian military convoy, killing several soldiers and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).

“In an unprecedented escalation, the insurgents abducted a Brigade Commander alongside other troops.”

As of Saturday morning, the Nigerian Army had not issued an official statement acknowledging the attack or commenting on the condition of the kidnapped officer.

The incident came just days after Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South under the All Progressives Congress (APC), condemned a renewed wave of terror attacks in parts of his constituency. He called the rising violence “deeply worrisome” and unacceptable.

In a statement on Thursday, Ndume revealed that four farmers were brutally murdered by Boko Haram insurgents while working on their farmlands in Kwam village, near the Dille community in Askira-Uba Local Government Area.

He said the victims were killed while harvesting crops — a development he described as further evidence of worsening insecurity in isolated communities that remain exposed despite years of counterterrorism operations.

“I am very much perturbed over the renewed attacks by Boko Haram terrorists in some parts of my constituency in the last week.

“These attacks led to the killing of four farmers while harvesting their crops in Kwam village, near Dille community of Askira- Uba local government area.”

The lawmaker stressed that the recent killings were part of a broader pattern of escalating assaults across several communities.
“Just last week, a Church and other infrastructures in Pemi were set ablaze, and yesterday (Wednesday), there were reports of Boko Haram invasion in the Shikarkir community of Chibok local government area in Borno state,” Ndume lamented.

He criticised the inability of security agencies to maintain a steady presence in remote settlements, warning that the vacuum has emboldened insurgents to strike repeatedly without resistance.
