Troops of the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have arrested a suspected gun-runner and recovered an AK-47 rifle during a special operation in Taraba State.

According to the army, the raid was part of ongoing efforts under Operation Lafiya Nakowa aimed at eliminating criminal networks and curbing the circulation of illegal firearms in the region.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 6 Brigade, Umar Muhammad, said the operation took place on November 12, 2025, at Shagada Village in Namnai Ward, Gassol Local Government Area.

He identified the suspect as Abdulmudallabi Audu, a 25-year-old, who was found in possession of arms and ammunition. Recovered items included one AK-47 rifle, two magazines, and 53 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

“The suspect and the recovered exhibits are currently in the custody of 6 Brigade Headquarters for further investigation and possible prosecution,” Muhammad said.

Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commander of the 6 Brigade, commended the troops for their vigilance, professionalism, and swift response to actionable intelligence.

He reaffirmed the brigade’s commitment to sustaining aggressive operations across Taraba to ensure peace and security in the state and adjoining regions.

Uwa also urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to help dismantle criminal networks and restore lasting peace.
