(JUST IN ) Anambra guber : Peter Obi loses polling unit to APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won the polling unit of former Anambra State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in Saturday’s governorship election.
The result, announced around 3 p.m. at Polling Unit 019, Agulu Ward 11 in Anaocha Local Government Area — the same location where Obi cast his vote — showed the APC candidate, Nicholas Ukachukwu, polling 73 votes. The Labour Party’s candidate, George Moghalu, followed with 57 votes, while the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) came third with 38 votes.
The figures, released by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), have stirred reactions across political circles, given Obi’s long-standing dominance in Anambra politics — particularly in Agulu, his hometown, where he has historically enjoyed strong grassroots support.
During the 2023 presidential election, Obi, who contested under the Labour Party, recorded a sweeping victory in Anambra State, winning more than 95 percent of the total votes and capturing nearly all polling units across the state.
Despite his visible role in rallying support for the Labour Party candidate ahead of the governorship contest, the outcome from his polling unit has sparked discussions about a possible shift in voter loyalty and the growing influence of opposition parties in the state.
