Tragedy struck on Tuesday when the convoy of House of Representatives member Jafaru Mohammad Ali Damisa, representing Agwara/Borgu Federal Constituency in Niger State, came under attack by terrorists, leaving two soldiers dead and several others, including civilians and security operatives, injured.

The ambush occurred around 11 a.m. as the lawmaker was en route to Babanna in Borgu Local Government Area to meet with his constituents.

According to a source who spoke to Daily Trust, the convoy was targeted with heavy gunfire by bandits at Audu-Fari village along the Babanna road.

“The lawmaker was attacked by bandits on his way to visit his constituents in Babanna. His police orderly, driver, and two soldiers were shot during the exchange of fire.

“Unfortunately, the two soldiers lost their lives, while the orderly and driver are receiving treatment in the hospital,” the source said.

Another source, who preferred anonymity, confirmed that the lawmaker escaped unhurt but that about ten people, including security personnel, sustained varying degrees of injuries. The injured were reportedly taken to the General Hospital in New Bussa, the headquarters of Borgu LGA, for medical attention.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident.

He said the attack was carried out by suspected bandits along the Babanna road but noted that it was successfully repelled by the joint security team accompanying the lawmaker.

According to Abiodun: “On November 4, 2025, at about 11 a.m., a report was received that the member representing Borgu/Agwara Federal Constituency and his entourage were attacked at Audu-Fari village along Babanna road by suspected bandits while on their way to Babanna area.

“However, the joint security team in the convoy responded, repelled the attack, and rescued the Honourable member to safety. Some persons sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital for medical treatment.”
