Another Premier League club sacks coach

One of the English Premier League clubs, Wolverhampton Wanderers, have parted ways with their head coach, Vítor Pereira, following a dismal start to the 2025/26 Premier League season that saw the club fail to record a single victory in their opening ten fixtures.

The decision was confirmed on Sunday through a statement on the club’s official website, revealing that the team managed only two draws while suffering eight defeats, leaving them rooted to the bottom of the table and eight points from safety.

According to the statement, results and performances “have fallen below acceptable standards,” prompting the board to act.

“Upon his arrival at Molineux last December, Pereira and his coaches made an immediate impact, guiding the team to a successful second half of the Premier League campaign. However, results and performances this term have fallen below acceptable standards, and as a result, a change in leadership was deemed necessary,” the club said.

Pereira’s departure also includes his entire backroom staff of eight members.

In the interim, “Under-21 head coach James Collins and Under-18 boss Richard Walker” will oversee first-team training until a permanent replacement is appointed.

Executive chairman Jeff Shi expressed appreciation for Pereira’s work during his tenure.

“Vitor and his team worked tirelessly for Wolves and helped guide us through a challenging period last season, for which we are grateful,” Shi said. “Unfortunately, the start to this season has been a disappointment and, despite our strong desire to give the head coach time and matches to find an improvement, we have reached a point where we must make a change.

“We thank Vitor and his staff for their efforts and wish them the very best for the future.”

The club did not specify a timeline for appointing a new head coach.

Wolves’ decision comes amid a turbulent start to the Premier League season, with Nottingham Forest and West Ham United also recently parting ways with their managers after poor runs of form.
