Couple son die in road crash as 2 month old baby battles for life

A tragic road accident on the Keffi-Abuja expressway has claimed the lives of a couple, Mr. Yohanna and Mrs. Juliet Thomas, along with their seven-year-old son, Destiny Thomas.

The fatal crash, which occurred a short distance from the popular Total Bus Stop in Keffi town, involved a J5 bus and a tricycle (Keke NAPEP). The couple’s two-month-old baby, Desire Mbekyosoh Thomas, is currently receiving treatment in critical condition at the Federal Medical Centre, Keffi.

The tricycle rider, whose identity was not immediately known, also died at the scene.

A family member, Mr. Emmanuel Cheto, said the victims had boarded the tricycle from Total Bus Stop in Keffi, Nasarawa State, and were heading to Angwan Jakara in Karu Local Government Area when the accident occurred barely a kilometre after departure.

He explained that the family was en route to inspect a plot of land owned by Juliet’s father, but the tragic incident cut their journey short.

According to Cheto, the accident happened when the J5 bus tried to avoid a pothole and collided with the tricycle, forcing both vehicles off the road near the Keffi Cattle Market.

“In the process, the tricycle ran into an electric pole by the side of the road,” he said.

Cheto added that the couple, their son, and the tricycle driver died instantly. Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) later arrived at the scene to recover the bodies.

A funeral notice indicated that a service for the deceased was held at ECWA Good News Church, opposite A.A. Rano filling station in Keffi, on Thursday, followed by burial at Angwan Monday in Gunduma village, Karu Local Government Area, the same day.

Mr. Cheto confirmed that the burial took place as scheduled in Angwan Monday, Gunduma village.
