Elon Musk unveils AI encyclopedia, set to rival Wikipedia

Tech billionaire Elon Musk has announced the launch of Grokipedia v0.1, an artificial intelligence–driven encyclopedia developed by his company, xAI.
Revealing the project early Tuesday morning, Musk described Grokipedia as a next-generation alternative to Wikipedia, powered by xAI’s Grok AI—the same technology integrated into his social media platform, X.
According to Musk, Grokipedia is designed to deliver faster, more accurate, and unbiased information, leveraging real-time AI learning and data synthesis. He boldly claimed that even in its initial beta phase, Grokipedia already outperforms Wikipedia in both depth and reliability.
“Version 1.0 will be 10X better, but even at 0.1, it’s better than Wikipedia imo,” Musk posted on X.
The launch directed users to the open-source site where version 0.1 went live. The platform features over 800,000 articles generated by Grok and integrated with real-time data from X, according to Musk.
“The goal of Grok and Grokipedia.com is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. We will never be perfect, but we shall nonetheless strive towards that goal,” the xAI CEO stated.
However, the rollout was not without hiccups. The site experienced a brief crash due to overwhelming traffic, but has since stabilised.
Grokipedia adapts some content from Wikipedia under a Creative Commons licence while aiming to purge perceived biases through an evidence- and physics-based rewriting process—Musk teased in September before delaying the launch to refine its approach.
