Firefighters Rescue Man Trapped In Lagos Underground Channel

A 55-year-old man who accidentally fell into an underground water channel along Ikorodu Road, near Idiroko Bus Stop inward Maryland, Anthony Village, in the Kosofe area of Lagos State, has been rescued alive by operatives of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.

According to a statement from the agency, the incident occurred around 12:24 p.m. on Saturday, prompting a swift response from the Ilupeju Fire Station, which was immediately deployed to the scene after a distress call was received.

Confirming the incident, the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, said the firefighters arrived at 12:45 p.m. and commenced a coordinated rescue operation using specialised equipment and confined-space techniques.

“On arrival, rescue personnel discovered that the incident involved a pale male adult, approximately 55 years old, who had accidentally fallen into a manhole.

“The firefighters promptly initiated a well-coordinated rescue operation utilising specialised equipment and confined-space rescue techniques to ensure the safe recovery of the victim,” Adeseye said.

She added that after sustained professional efforts, the man was successfully rescued alive and handed over to police officers from the Anthony Division for further necessary action.

“The operation was successfully concluded, and the scene was secured at 3:41 p.m.,” she added.

Adeseye reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state through timely and efficient emergency response.

“The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service remains unwavering in its mission to safeguard lives and property through prompt and professional interventions,” she said.
