The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a Chinese national identified as Joe Gu in connection with the recent improvised explosive device (IED) blast that rocked a CCTV camera dealer’s shop on Kodesho Street, Ikeja.

“Detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba, arrested the suspect at about 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25, at his residence located at No. A11, Bila Vista, Banana Island, Ikoyi,” said a security source.

According to the report by Zagazola Makama, the arrest followed ongoing discreet investigations into the explosion incident, during which the complainant strongly suspected the Chinese national as the possible mastermind of the act.

“The suspect had a previous business relationship with the complainant, which turned sour in 2013 after a dispute,” other sources said.

“It was further gathered that during the fallout, the suspect allegedly threatened to disrupt the complainant’s business operations.”

The suspect is currently in police custody as investigation continues to determine his level of involvement and possible motive.

“The police assured the public that further developments on the case would be communicated in due course, and reiterated the command’s commitment to uncovering the circumstances surrounding the explosion,” sources added.

The command has yet to issue a formal statement on the arrest.
