Sunderland stun Chelsea with 93rd minute winner at Stamford Bridge

English Premier League side, Sunderland, stunned Chelsea with a stoppage-time strike from Chemsdine Talbi to move up to second place in the Premier League, while Newcastle also left it late to edge Fulham 2-1 on Saturday.

Making their return to the top flight after eight years, the Black Cats continue to defy expectations, showing no signs of the struggles that often plague newly promoted sides.

Chelsea appeared poised to claim the runners-up spot when Alejandro Garnacho fired home his first goal for the club just four minutes into the game.

But with teenage prodigy Estevao starting on the bench and Cole Palmer still sidelined through injury, Mauricio Pochettino’s side struggled for creativity in attack.

Sunderland pulled level in the 22nd minute as Wilson Isidor pounced from close range after the hosts failed to clear a long throw-in.

Despite Estevao’s introduction on the hour mark, Chelsea were unable to break through a resolute Sunderland defence in the second half.

The visitors then delivered a decisive counter-attack in stoppage time, with Brian Brobbey setting up Talbi to curl a brilliant finish into the bottom corner in the 93rd minute.

Sunderland’s English midfielder Chris Rigg celebrated the victory with teammates at Stamford Bridge, while Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella could only look on in frustration as the Black Cats sealed a memorable 2-1 win.
