Divisional Police Officer dies during surgery in Lagos hospital

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the passing of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Festac Division, CSP Matilda Ngbanoyen.

Ngbanoyen reportedly died while undergoing medical treatment for fibroid complications at a Lagos hospital.

According to security analyst Zagozola Makama, the incident happened  on October 24, 2025, at about 11:30 p.m., when the officer passed away at a medical facility located on Bode Thomas Street, Surulere, during a medical session.

Following the report, a delegation from the Command visited the hospital to verify the development and make necessary arrangements.

“The corpse was evacuated to a public morgue for preservation and autopsy,”sources said.

The Command disclosed that plans were being made, in partnership with the deceased officer’s family, to give her a befitting burial.

CSP Ngbanoyen was remembered as a dedicated and disciplined officer who served the Nigeria Police Force with professionalism and commitment.

The Command also extended its condolences to her family, colleagues, and friends over the unfortunate loss.
