Police move in as terrorists plant IEDs on major Borno road

Police operatives in Borno have successfully neutralised two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) planted by insurgents along the Ngwaom–Mafa Road.

The Command’s spokesperson, ASP Nahum Daso, disclosed this in a statement issued in Maiduguri on Thursday.

According to him, the explosives were uncovered and safely detonated during a post-attack assessment tour by Governor Babagana Zulum. The governor was accompanied by Commissioner of Police Naziru Abdulmajid and senior military officials to Mafa and Dikwa Local Government Areas.

The visit, Daso explained, followed a foiled Boko Haram assault that occurred between the late hours of Oct. 22 and Oct. 23.

“The timely detection and controlled detonation of the IEDs averted potential harm to security personnel and commuters along the route,” he said.

The statement also quoted Abdulmajid as praising the joint efforts of the police, military and other security outfits for their “gallantry, vigilance, professionalism and commitment” during the operation.

Abdulmajid further pledged the deployment of more officers and resources to strengthen ongoing security operations and consolidate the peace efforts in the area.

“The police command further appreciates the leadership of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Borno State, and the sustained synergy with other security agencies in the collective effort to maintain peace and stability across the state,” he added.
