The Federal University Lokoja (FUL) community has been thrown into deep mourning following the tragic death of Mrs. Kemi Emmanuel, a lecturer in the Department of Theatre Arts, who was crushed to death by a speeding truck on Wednesday afternoon.

The heartbreaking incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. along the Crusher–Felele axis of the Lokoja–Abuja expressway. According to eyewitnesses, Mrs. Emmanuel was riding on a commercial motorcycle when a moving articulated truck reportedly lost control and hit the bike, throwing her onto the road.

It was gathered that the late lecturer was deeply respected and loved by her students and colleagues in the Department of Theatre Arts. News of her death has since sparked grief across the campus, with many describing her as kind, dedicated, and full of life.

Confirming the incident, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Kogi State, Mr. Tenimu Etuku, described the development as “very sad and unfortunate.”

He explained that FRSC rescue officers arrived promptly at the scene and rushed Mrs. Emmanuel to the Kogi State Specialist Hospital, but doctors confirmed her dead on arrival.

“The corpse of the deceased has been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary,” Etuku said.

He also condemned the conduct of the commercial motorcyclist who reportedly fled the scene under the pretext of pursuing the hit-and-run driver.

Etuku advised motorcycle riders to exercise caution and avoid competing with heavy vehicles on highways, warning that such recklessness often ends in tragedy.
