Court nullifies Ebonyi LG election, declares poll unconstitutional

The Federal High Court, Abakaliki Division, has on Tuesday nullified the election that brought the current 13 local government chairmen and their councillors into office in Ebonyi State, describing the poll as unconstitutional.
According to reports, the court voided the 2024 local government election conducted by the Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission (EBSIEC) over disobedience and non-compliance with the Electoral Act.
This is not the first time the court has ruled against the state’s local government polls. It had earlier nullified the August 2022 election, declaring it null and void for similar violations of due process and electoral guidelines.
