(JUST IN)Nnamdi Kanu: Security operatives tear gas Sowore, other protesters in Abuja

Security operatives on Monday forcefully dispersed protesters led by activist Omoyele Sowore in the Maitama area of Abuja.

The demonstrators, which included Sowore, lawyer Barr. Aloy Ejimakor, and several others, had gathered near the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) headquarters, demanding the release of detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

The group chanted slogans such as “Free Nnamdi Kanu Now” as they called for justice and freedom.

Eyewitnesses reported that moments before the confrontation, the protesters had cautioned police officers not to deploy tear gas. However, gunshots soon rang out, forcing the crowd to scatter in panic as security personnel moved in to disperse the gathering.
