The Yobe State Police Command has launched an investigation following the discovery of a woman’s body near the Federal University, Gashua.

SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the development while briefing journalists on Saturday in Damaturu.

According to him, the case was reported on Friday by one Yusuf Sarkin Baka, a resident of Sabon Daula Ward in Bade Local Government Area.

Abdulkarim said the deceased, identified as 45-year-old Falmata Abubakar from Abasha, Sarkin Hausawa Ward in Gashua, was found near the university’s perimeter fence dressed in a black hijab.

He explained that officers from the Gashua Police Division arrived at the scene and moved the body to the Specialist Hospital, Gashua, where a medical doctor confirmed her death.

Preliminary findings, Abdulkarim said, indicated that the victim might have been conveyed in a vehicle and dumped at the spot, about two kilometres from her home.

The body, he added, was later released to her relatives for burial after an autopsy was conducted in line with Islamic customs.

“The Commissioner of Police, Mr Emmanuel Ado, has assured members of the public of a thorough and professional investigation aimed at uncovering the circumstances surrounding the incident,” he said.
Abdulkarim further noted that the commissioner appealed for calm and encouraged residents to provide credible information that could assist the investigation.
He reaffirmed the command’s dedication to protecting lives and property and sustaining peace throughout the state.
