2 officers killed inside police station

Two police officers were killed on Friday evening when gunmen attacked a police station in Zonkwa, Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Residents were thrown into panic as the attackers stormed the station, which is located a few meters from Kamyim Hotel in the Kurmin-Bi area of the town, and began shooting indiscriminately.

Eyewitnesses said that the assailants were attempting to rescue some suspected vandals arrested earlier in Kachia town.
“They believed that the suspects were being detained at the Zonkwa Police Station,” one witness said.

“However, it was later gathered that the suspects were not being held at the station. But the havoc had already been done,” the witness, who requested anonymity, added.

A security source confirmed the incident but declined to provide further details.

A video making rounds on the social media shows two officers in uniform lying motionless on the floor, as a crowd gathered at the scene, lamenting the worsening insecurity in the area.
