Kano court sentences 2 men to death by hanging

A Kano State High Court has sentenced two men to death after finding them guilty of murdering a carpenter in the Danbare area of Kano metropolis.
Justice Sunusi Ado Ma’aji of High Court No. 15 in Kano delivered the judgment on Thursday, convicting Sagiru Lawan and Kabiru Alaramma for the killing of Abba Aminu Yalwa.
According to court records, the convicts lured the victim to a location under the guise of showing him a plot of land before attacking and killing him.
The prosecution, led by Barrister Aminu Ado Bello, called six witnesses and presented several exhibits to establish the case.
In his ruling, Justice Ma’aji stated that the prosecution had proven the murder charge beyond reasonable doubt.
“The prosecution counsel, Barrister Aminu Ado Bello, presented strong and convincing evidence which proved the murder charge against the two defendants,” the judge said.
The crime, which occurred in 2018, stemmed from a financial dispute between the deceased and one of the convicts. The late Abba Aminu Yalwa had reportedly given money to Sagiru Lawan, who later failed to return it. Sagiru then invited Abba to Danbare, claiming he wanted to show him a plot of land for sale. Upon arrival, Sagiru called his associate, Kabiru Alaramma, and the two men strangled and stabbed the victim to death.
After reviewing the testimonies and exhibits, Justice Ma’aji found both men guilty of murder under Section 221 (B) of the Penal Code, which prescribes the death penalty.
He consequently sentenced Sagiru Lawan and Kabiru Alaramma to death by hanging.
