President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s nominee for the chairmanship of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan (SAN), is currently at the National Assembly for his official screening before the Senate.

Amupitan, who arrived at the Red Chamber on Thursday afternoon, was accompanied by Kogi State Governor Ahmed Ododo and other dignitaries. Upon arrival, he began reading his professional profile before the lawmakers as part of the confirmation process.

He was ushered into the chamber by the Presidential Aide on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Senator Abubakar Lado, and was already seated ahead of the commencement of the screening exercise.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio welcomed the guests to the Red Chamber, including Amupitan himself, his family members and other well-wishers.

The screening process started shortly at about 12.55 pm after the Senate President’s remarks to explain how the exercise will be carried out.

The deputy senate president, Barau Jibrin, opened the floodgates of questions with the approval of the senate president, Godswill Akpabio, asking about how the nominee will make INEC more impartial.
