Viral video: Police arrest suspected car snatcher in Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a suspected car snatcher, Iruo Young, who was allegedly involved in the armed robbery of a Toyota Avalon captured in a viral video in Choba, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement issued on Thursday in Port Harcourt, the command’s spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the arrest, stating that police operatives launched an intensive manhunt for the suspects after the video showing the gunpoint robbery went viral.
According to Iringe-Koko, the suspect was apprehended following credible intelligence and is currently assisting the police with further investigations to track down his accomplices.
She said, “The incident which occurred at about 1500hrs involved the snatching of a Toyota Avalon car at gunpoint.
“Through intelligence-led Policing and technical support, operatives of the Command have successfully apprehended one of the suspects, identified as Iruo Young M. ‘m’ aged 42 years, at his hideout in Ikoku, Port Harcourt.
“During interrogation, the suspect voluntarily confessed to the crime, providing detailed information about his involvement in the robbery incident.”
Iringe-Koko added that efforts were ongoing to arrest other fleeing members of the gang and recover the stolen vehicle as well as the firearms used in the operation.
The state Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, commended the operatives for their swift response and diligence.
He also thanked residents for sharing credible information that aided the arrest, warning that criminals would find no hiding place in any part of the state.
