Gunmen kill 8 in deadly Nasarawa attack

At least eight people have been confirmed dead after armed men launched an early-morning assault on Nindama village in Kokona Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
According to a report by security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Zagozola Makama, the attack happened in the early hours of October 10, when unidentified gunmen stormed the community around 3:30 a.m., firing indiscriminately and killing eight residents.
“Two other persons sustained critical injuries and are currently receiving treatment, while six others are still missing,” Sources were quoted to have said.
The sources added that by about 3:30 p.m., a joint team of security operatives — comprising the army, police, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) — visited the area in the company of the Executive Chairman of Kokona LGA, Hon. Agbawu M. Agbawu.
According to the sources, the victims’ remains have been taken to the mortuary, while search efforts continue for the missing individuals and the perpetrators.
Preliminary findings, the sources revealed, suggest that the assault may be linked to a long-standing land dispute in the community.
Security agencies have assured residents of increased patrols and called on anyone with relevant information to support the ongoing investigation.
