Gen Nnebeife leads troops to rescue kidnap victims after deadly attack in Kwara

Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 2 Division, led by the General Officer Commanding and Commander of Sector 3, Operation FANSAN YAMA, Maj. Gen. Chinedu Nnebeife, have rescued two kidnapped victims during an operation in Kwara State.

The Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 2 Division, Lt. Col. Polycarp Okoye, made this known in a statement on Saturday.

According to Okoye, the GOC, who was on an operational visit to Patrol Base Babanla on Thursday, led his men into Babasango Forest where the victims were freed.

He added that the rescued individuals were later handed over to the traditional ruler of Ayekale, Oba Pius Oluwole Onidofin of Idofin Odoeshe Ayekale.

Okoye explained that the operation was carried out following an attack by bandits near Idofin in Omu-Aran Local Government Area, where three traders were killed at Olegbede village.

“Oba Oluwole attributed the attacks to the community’s proximity to Babasango Forest and appealed for sustained military presence.

Maj. Gen. Nnebeife commiserated with the royal father and assured that the Nigerian Army would sustain ongoing operations to clear the forest of bandits and other criminal elements,” he said.
