4 Nigerians face trial in Ghana over alleged theft of piggy bank

Four Nigerians have been charged in Ghana for allegedly breaking into residential apartments in the Baatsonaa area of Accra and stealing a piggy bank, popularly called a susu box, along with other valuable items.
According to a report by GhanaWeb, the suspects, identified as Moses Chiendu, Ugo Onyeka, Obum Nnebuo, and Wisdom Chukwu, appeared before the Accra Circuit Court in early October.
Court documents revealed that Onyeka and Chukwu are traders, Chinedu works as a carpenter, while Nnebuo is currently unemployed. The four men allegedly broke into the homes of Leslie Nii Fio Mensah, a self-employed individual, and Abraham Kwaku Frimpong, a freight forwarder living in the same building.
Items reportedly taken during the break-ins included an HP laptop, a Samsung S6 Lite tablet, Samsung A32 and A33 phones, two JBL Bluetooth speakers, two JBL headsets, and a gold-coloured Rolex watch.
The stolen items were valued at approximately GH₵25,470, $2,200, and £2,500 combined. The defendants are facing seven charges, including conspiracy to steal, unlawful entry, causing unlawful damage, and theft.
Prosecutor Sergeant Priscilla Avorgah told the court, “They forcibly entered the room, and the aforementioned items were stolen from the complainants.”
She further explained, “Their mission was to enter various houses to steal from them while they were at work. The complainant’s house was the third they entered.”
