LP Senator dumps party for APC
Kevin Chukwu

Senator Kelvin Chukwu, who represents Enugu East Senatorial District, has officially defected from the Labour Party (LP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The announcement of his defection was made on Tuesday during plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

In his letter to the Senate, Senator Chukwu explained that his decision was driven by what he described as the “collapse of internal democracy” and the “poor state of affairs” within the Labour Party.

In response, Akpabio congratulated Chukwu on his move and emphasized that Nigeria would not become a one-party state, noting that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) continues to register more political parties to strengthen the democratic space.

With this development, APC Senators are now 73, PDP 28, LP 4, NNPP 1, SDP 1 and APGA 2, which brings the total to 109.
