President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially signed the Nigeria Police Training Institutes Establishment Bill into law, creating a new legal framework for specialized police training institutions across the country.

The development was announced on Tuesday during plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who confirmed that the President had granted his constitutional assent to the legislation.

“The Nigerian Police Force Training Institutions Establishment Bill 2025 amendment—so, further to our letter from the Clerk forwarding the authenticated copies of the bills for Mr. President’s constitutional assent, I hereby return two copies duly signed by Mr. President who has granted assent and seal of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Akpabio said.

He added that the new law “now establishes the Police Training Institutes in the various areas designated by the Nigerian Senate,” underscoring the government’s renewed commitment to professionalising law enforcement and strengthening internal security architecture.

The bill was first passed by the Senate in December 2024, after extensive deliberations on the need to improve police professionalism, modernise training infrastructure, and expand the capacity of security personnel across the federation.
