Alleged blasphemy: Kano Shura Council warns against further comments

The Kano State Shura Council has urged members of the public to desist from further comments on the blasphemous act against Prophet Muhammad(SAW) allegedly committed by Sheikh Abubakar Lawan Triumph, pending the determination of the matter.
Some Islamic organizations had petitioned the council alleging that Sheikh Triumph had blasphemed the Prophet by saying things in disrespect to him.
The Secretary of the council, Shehu Sagagi, made the call while briefing journalists on the outcome of the meeting of the body on Sunday.
Sagagi said the incessant comments and statements on the issue could further inflame passions which according to him, would not help the peace and harmony being enjoyed in the state.
“The council has noted the the incessant comments and statements on this issue being made by knowledgeable people and those who are not knowledgeable. People should know that the problem at hand requires deep Islamic knowledge to solve.
“Our appeal specially goes to Islamic scholars outside the state to stop making further comments on the matter. We want peace and harmony to prevail in the state,” he said.
The Secretary said the council had set up a committee to deliberate on the issues at stake and invite Sheikh Triumph to appear before it to defend himself.
He said the council is working assiduously to ensure that justice is served, adding,”We are committed to giving all parties involved a fair and impartial hearing,” he said.
He assured that the State Government would maintain its neutrality in the matter, and that the process would be conducted with all transparency and fairness.
“The government is not taking sides, and we want the people to have full confidence that due process will be followed,” he added.
