Renowned American rapper, Sean “Diddy” Combs, flanked by attorneys Brian Steel and Alexandra Shapiro, delivered a deeply remorseful apology Friday in a New York courtroom ahead of his sentencing on prostitution-related charges.

“I want to personally apologize again to Cassie Ventura for any harm or hurt that I caused to her, emotionally or physically,” Combs said, before adding, “My actions were disgusting, shameful and sick.”

Convicted in July on two counts of arranging cross-state travel for sexual encounters, Combs was acquitted of the more serious racketeering and sex trafficking charges.

At sentencing, he faces a stark contrast between the prosecution’s demand for over 11 years behind bars and his defense’s plea for just 14 months (much of which he has already served).

One of his lawyers choked back tears as she addressed the court, while his adult children appeared visibly emotional, pleading for leniency from Judge Arun Subramanian.
Prosecutors characterized Combs as someone who would pose “a danger at any age” and warned against a light sentence allowing him to evade accountability for years of alleged abuse.

Combs submitted a letter to the court expressing that he was once “broken” but now claims to be spiritually renewed, sober, and humbled by his incarceration.

The judge has indicated an advisory sentencing range of 70 to 87 months (roughly six to seven years), though he is not bound by it.

Also featured in court: a video produced by the defense, emphasizing Combs’s philanthropic efforts and his evolving relationship with family.
