Jonathan free to run in 2027, but Nigerians remember his record – Presidency

The Presidency has clarified that former President Goodluck Jonathan is constitutionally free to contest the 2027 presidential election.
Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, stated this in a press release on Monday.
He noted that while Jonathan is welcome to join the race, Nigerians will not easily forget what he described as the former president’s “dismal record in office.”
Onanuga’s remarks came in response to recent comments by Jerry Gana, a former Minister of Information, who claimed that Jonathan would run for the presidency in 2027 under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Jonathan, who served as Nigeria’s president from 2010 to 2015, lost his re-election bid to Muhammadu Buhari in 2015, marking the first time an incumbent president was defeated in Nigeria’s history.
