Alfindiki urges Kano gov to apologise over misleading NECO results celebration
Governor Abba Yusuf

Faizu Alfindiki, a senior aide to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, has called on Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to issue an apology to Nigerians over what he described as a misleading celebration of the state’s performance in the 2025 National Examinations Council’s (NECO) Senior School Certificate Examination.

Alfindiki, who is also an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Kano, said on Friday that the incident raises serious concerns about accuracy and accountability in public communications.

According to his statement, the governor’s recent celebration of what was believed to be exceptional performance by Kano students in the NECO Senior School Certificate Examination had placed the state “in a bad light.

“The information leading to this celebration has come under scrutiny which gave credence to the fact that the widely publicized celebration of supposed Kano outstanding performance in the 2025 National Examination Council (NECO) results was not only a ruse, but a big gaffe,” Alfindiki said.

He added: “This embarrassing gaffe pointed to the fact that the Kano number one citizen is yet to grasp the art of governance in a digital era where simple fact checks will have save the state this huge embarrassment.”

The APC stalwart advised that the state government improve its processes of data verification before making public pronouncements in order to rebuild public trust.

“I want to advise on heightened diligence in verifying data before public acknowledgments, seeking to align actions with factual merit and restore confidence,” he said.

“I therefore suggest an internal review to identify how the misinformation occurred and prevent future occurrences, because transparency and accuracy should remain core values in governance.

“Finally, I urged Abba Kabir Yusuf administration to take responsibility for the oversight, and tender unreserved apologies to the students, schools, and people of Kano State and Nigeria that have been affected by this gaffe,” the statement added.
