2027 Jonathan meets David Mark after ADC meeting

Former President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday night paid a visit to African Democratic Congress (ADC) National Chairman, David Mark, amid rising speculation over his possible return to the presidential race.

The meeting came just hours after the ADC held its inaugural National Caucus meeting in Abuja, where the coalition formally adopted the party as its platform.

Jonathan, who previously led Nigeria before losing to the late President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015, remains eligible for only one more term should he decide to re-enter the contest and secure victory in 2027.

Some members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have reportedly been persuading him to step back into the political arena and challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the next election.

Although the purpose of Jonathan’s visit was not immediately disclosed, Mark and Jonathan share a long-standing political relationship.

Mark was Senate President during Jonathan’s administration and played a pivotal role in shaping the “doctrine of necessity,” which cleared the path for Jonathan to assume office as Acting President during the constitutional crisis triggered by the ill health of the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.
