Saudi Arabia names new Grand Mufti

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has appointed Sheikh Dr. Saleh bin Humaid as the new Grand Mufti of the Kingdom and Head of the Senior Council of Scholars.

The announcement was made by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, following the passing of Sheikh Abdulaziz, who served as Grand Mufti since 1999 and died on Tuesday at the age of 82.

Sheikh Dr. Saleh bin Humaid, a respected scholar and one of the nine Imams of the Grand Mosque in Mecca, will now assume the top religious leadership role in the Kingdom.
