Police react to rumoured attack on DIG Frank Mbah’s residence

The Enugu State Police Command has refuted widespread claims on social media alleging that the country home of Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) Frank Mba was attacked.
In a statement released on Sunday night by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the police clarified that the reports making the rounds were completely false and misleading.
According to Ndukwe, on September 18, 2025, officers responded swiftly to a distress call in Ezimo, the hometown of DIG Mba. Their timely intervention successfully foiled an armed robbery attempt in the area.
“During the shootout, a police officer sustained gunshot injuries and later died in the hospital,” the statement confirmed.
The police further disclosed that one male suspect was arrested and is currently assisting in an ongoing discreet investigation and a manhunt for the fleeing suspects.
The statement also quoted the Commissioner of Police, Mamman Giwa, as saying: “The command remains unwavering in its commitment to combating violent crimes in Enugu State,” while urging operatives to “sustain the lead already established towards apprehending the suspects.”
The Command called on the public to disregard the false information circulating online and recognize the efforts of the police in maintaining law and order across the state.
