JUST IN: Edo councillors move to impeach acting council chairmen
Fresh political drama has unfolded in Edo State as councillors across the 18 local government areas began impeachment proceedings against acting council chairmen on Monday.
The development came less than 24 hours after 59 elected councillors received their Certificates of Return, signaling a swift power shift at the grassroots level.
According to sources within the All Progressives Congress (APC), the move is part of efforts to ensure that loyal APC members take control of council leadership, rather than defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who had been holding sway in some areas.
In Uhunmwonde LGA, eight councillors voted to impeach the Acting Chairman, Hon. Iradia Benjamin. Similarly, in Esan West, Acting Chairman Hon. Aigboboh opted to resign voluntarily in order to avoid impeachment.
