Fubara speaks on journey ahead at Thanksgiving Service

Rivers State Governor,  Siminalayi Fubara, has urged the church and residents of the state to remain unwavering in prayers as he embarks on what he described as a renewed journey of governance.

Speaking at a thanksgiving service held at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Opobo Town, Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area — his first public appearance since returning to office — Governor Fubara said intercessions have been his source of strength and will remain central as he seeks to deliver on his mandate.

The governor officially resumed duties on Friday following the end of the six-month emergency rule. He expressed gratitude to the people of Opobo for their years of fasting and intercession, saying their prayers had been answered.

In a statement issued by his spokesman, Nelson Chukwudi, the governor likened prayers to deposits in a bank, noting that “their dividends manifest in due season.”

The thanksgiving service, part of the “2025 Harvest of Divine Possibilities,” also served as a personal moment of appreciation for the governor. He said his visit was to quietly acknowledge God’s faithfulness to his family, Rivers State, and Nigeria.

Fubara, who tied his message to the International Day of Peace, emphasized the centrality of peace in development and unity.

He said: “I am here together with my wife this first Sunday after the suspension of the state of emergency. We cannot thank God enough as a family. Our being here is private; we came simply to worship in our home church. When my story ends, this church will lead me to my next journey.

“So, it is important that I come here to say thank you quietly before the Almighty God for what He has done, what He is doing, and what He will continue to do, not just for me and my family, but for this State and Nigeria.

“The greatest gift anyone can wish for is peace. Peace in the home prevents sickness and worry. Peace in the community attracts development. Peace within yourself promotes good health. Truly, peace is the most important thing. I urge everyone to hold peace dear as a symbol of unity and a foundation for the progress of our dear state.”

The governor reaffirmed his dedication to the service of Rivers people and called for continuous prayers and support for his administration.

Governor Fubara attended the service with his wife, Lady Valerie Siminalayi Fubara, alongside top officials and community leaders, including Chief of Staff,  Edison Ehie, Chief Oris Onyiri, Amaopusenibo Fubara Hart, Hon. Damiete Herbert Miller, Chief Theodore Georgewill, Chairman of Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Council Barrister James A. James, and Vice Chairman Mrs. Gladys Daniel Legg-Jack.
